The 81337M Mercury choke rod is an OEM choke linkage rod used on select Mercury and Mercruiser intake manifolds. To control the choke mechanism, this rod connects the choke lever to the choke plate inside the carburetor or manifold. It plays a key role in helping the choke system work properly during cold starts.
Choke rods link the control arm to the choke assembly so that when you move the choke knob or lever, the choke plate opens and closes smoothly. When the 81337M Mercury choke rod bends or wears, the choke can stick or fail to move correctly. That can make cold starts hard or cause the engine to run poorly until it warms up. Therefore, replacing worn rods helps restore correct choke action. Start by checking the choke linkage path and mounting points. Then remove the old rod and install the new one in the same orientation. Make sure the ends seat into their linkage brackets and move freely with the choke control.
