The 40-260 head assembly fits OMC, Johnson, and Evinrude electric tilt and trim motors. It forms the end section of the tilt motor housing. This assembly supports internal components and keeps the motor aligned during operation. Proper alignment ensures smooth trim and tilt movement.

Tilt and trim systems adjust engine angle while underway. Because of this, they rely on stable motor components. The 40-260 head assembly secures the brush plate and supports the armature shaft. It also helps seal the motor housing from moisture intrusion.

Mechanical Function

This head assembly holds the motor brushes in correct position. It maintains proper contact between brushes and commutator. As a result, the tilt motor runs smoothly and delivers consistent torque. If the head becomes worn or corroded, the motor may run intermittently.

Common failure symptoms include slow tilt movement or clicking sounds. You may also notice uneven motor response. In some cases, the motor may stop completely. Replacing the worn assembly restores proper electrical contact and internal stability.

Condition & Installation

This unit is old stock and unused. It may show minor storage marks. However, it remains fully functional. Always inspect seals and wiring during installation. Use clean mounting surfaces to ensure proper fit.

Correct alignment prevents brush wear and overheating. Therefore, replacing damaged motor components early avoids larger repair costs.
